The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu says his group was founded on a non-violent principle and completely condemns the killing of soldiers by suspected members of the group in Aba few weeks ago as well as in other places.
Speaking shortly after the day’s court session was adjourned said it made no sense that anybody would kill anyone in the South east and parts of Nigeria in the name of freedom.
Earlier on during the trial, the IPOB Leader speaking through his lead counsel, Alloy Ejimakor, told the Federal High Court in Abuja, that he would be seeking negotiation with the federal government under Section 17 of the Federal High Court Act.
Reacting to the call for negotiation, Adegboyega Awomolo told the court that he had earlier informed the defendant that he does not have the powers to negotiate on behalf of the Federal Government and asked Kanu to approach the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN).
The presiding judge, Justice Binta Nyako also refrained from making a pronouncement on the negotiation proposal on the premise that the court was not a solicitor but only there to hear and adjudicate on cases.
