The Federal High Court in Abuja has refused to grant the bail request of suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari, on the premise that it lacked merit.
Kyari and two other senior officers are facing an eight-count charge bordering on drug trafficking brought against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NLDEA).
Ruling on the matter, Justice Emeka Nwite stated that Kyari failed to establish any exceptional circumstance that would warrant the exercise of judicial discretion in his favour as it had previously ordered accelerated hearing of the case.
This ruling is coming about three weeks after Kyari was granted temporarily bail for two weeks on passionate grounds, to the tune of N50 million and a surety in like sum to enable him attend to his late mother’s burial rites.
