There is a nationwide blackout following the shutdown of the national grid by the organized Labour taskforce enforcing the strike.
According to Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Benin Area Control Center was shutdown around 1:15 AM when the Benin Transmission Operator, part of the Independent System Operations unit of TCN, reported that all operators were forcibly removed from the control room while those who resisted were beaten.
The Labour Union also shut down other major transmission substations including Ganmo, Benin, Ayede, Olorunsogo, Akangba, and Osogbo.
The statement signed by TCN’s Public Affairs manager, Ndidi Mbah further indicated that the Jebba Generating Station had one unit forcibly shut down, leading to a subsequent shutdown of three other units due to high frequency and system instability.
The TCN noted that the shutdown has caused significant disruptions and begged the Labour Union to cease their activities to allow for the restoration of the national grid and resumption of electricity supply to affected areas.
