The Kogi State Government has successfully secured the release of the final eight students abducted from Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara (CUSTECH), bringing the total number of rescued students to 30.
State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, announced the news, thanking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and various national security agencies for their roles in the rescue. Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo also expressed gratitude to Kwara State Governor AbdulRahmam AbdulRazak for his support.
The students were kidnapped last month while preparing for exams.
Initially, four students were rescued, followed by 16 more, with two escaping on their own before the final eight were freed.
Tragically, two students were killed by the abductors after the government refused to pay ransom, opting instead for a combined military and non-military approach.
Fanwo emphasized the state’s commitment to enhancing school safety and protecting children’s rights to education, highlighting ongoing initiatives and urging citizens to assist security efforts by providing intelligence to prevent future crimes.
