The Director General of the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN), Segun Ajayi-Kadir, has appealed to the organised labour to reconsider its decision to embark on a nationwide strike over the inability to agree on a new minimum wage.
Ajayi-Kadir, who is on the part of the organised private sector in the tripartite committee, said he does not believe that the labour walking out of discussions and declaring strike would help matters, noting that a strike action in the midst of economic downturn will aggravate the situation.
Ajayi-Kadir also said he does not believe that the government does not care but cost of living in Nigeria has reached new highs, following the removal of fuel subsidy and the floating of the naira, calling for realistic discussions from both divides.
Recall, the President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Festus Osifo announced the strike at a joint news conference with the leadership of the NLC on Friday, after the union pulled out of the negotiation and rejected two Federal Government offers, the latest being N60,000.
