Lagos Waste Management Authority says it has commenced the final pre-commissioning cleaning of the recently rebuilt Apapa-Oworonshoki Expressway, focusing on the area around Coconut Bus Stop.
A statement by the commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the first phase of the clean-up started a few weeks ago following removal of the tankers and trailers, preventing access by equipment to clean the rubbish deposited on the road.
According to him, the operation will ensure safe and complete removal of remnant waste from drainage channels along the median and sides of the road, cleaning and polishing of road surfaces to enhance the aesthetics of the highway.
The commissioner also stated that partnership is in place with other stakeholders like Nigerian Ports Authority, Dangote Industries, to provide double Dino bin to cater for public waste collection from markets and low-low income communities.
Wahab further noted that the clean-up effort by LAWMA underscores governments commitment to improving environmental quality and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of roads and highways.
