
Lagos state government says it will continue to remove illegal structures and unauthorized settlements in different parts of the state, in line with the provisions of the law.
Commissioner for environment and water resources, Tokunbo wahab said this while giving updates on the activities of operatives of the State Environmental Sanitation Corps, noting that (KAI) has commenced the removal of shanties built by the perimeter fence of African Bethel Primary School, IkoroduSir, and makeshift structures built at Fujena Street off Awolowo Road, Ikorodu.
Wahab said the drainage enforcement and compliance department of the ministry of the environment and water resources has issued a 48-hour contravention notice to owners of properties built on Right-Of-Way of drainage channel in Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, Isolo.
According to him, the action is in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017 and the renewed drive of the Babajide Sanwo-Olu administration’s effort to ensure free flow of rainwater and prevent flooding across the State.’
Meanwhile, following public complaints, enforcement officials resealed a property at Shalom Drive, Patrick Harbour Estate, Ikoyi which had been illegally unsealed. It also sealed the following construction sites on Folawiyo Bankole Surulere, Ahmed street, Surulere and Nuru Oniwo street also in Surulere.
They were using building materials to block the drains and roads.
