The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, has instructed recently appointed Judges to defend and promote the rule of law.
The statement was made at the National Judicial Institute in Abuja recently, during the orientation programme for recently appointed judges of the higher courts of record.
Represented by Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, Ariwoola gave the newly appointed justices advice that stressed humility in acknowledging their limitations as well as seeking help and direction from other judges while also seeking education.
“You will often encounter complicated cases that also present ethical quandaries. Occasionally, you will be faced with cases that necessitate making tough choices. However, never forget that justice is a journey that should not be completed with fanfare, parades, or awards. Instead, it is an ongoing endeavour, and you must not be afraid to persist on the side of justice and integrity.”
