A Kogi State High Court has restrained the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from arresting, detaining and prosecuting ex-governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello.
Justice I.A Jamil of High Court IV gave the order after Bello filed a breach of his fundamental human rights by the Anti-graft agency before the state High Court.
Consequently, the Court restrained the respondents from persecuting the applicant, except it has reasonable evidence upon proper investigation.
On the issue of jurisdiction as challenged by the EFCC, the judge said it had failed and so was dismissed.
However, in a plot twist, the Federal High Court in Abuja authorized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apprehend ex-Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State ahead of his scheduled court appearance on Thursday.
Justice Emeka Nwite approved the warrant earlier today upon the request of the EFCC.
Call EFCC To Order – Bello Tells Tinubu
The former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello earlier on Wednesday asked President Bola Tinubu to call the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to order after they invaded his residence.
Bello who spoke via his media office, wondered why the EFCC operatives were eager to effect his arrest despite a subsisting order restraining them from harassing, arresting, detaining or prosecuting him pending the hearing and determination of the substantive fundamental rights enforcement action.
While insinuating that there is a perceived desperation on the part of the anti-graft agency to to embarrass him, the former Kogi Governor argued that the actions of the EFCC was a big dent on the fight against corruption.
He therefore called on President Tinubu to call the EFCC to order in the interest of legal sanity.
