The Nigeria Labour Congress has demanded a minimum wage of N794,000 for workers in the South West geopolitical zone.
The figure was recommended by Chairman of the Lagos State Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Funmi Sessi in the memorandum submitted at the South-West, Geo-Political Zone, Public Hearings, organised by the Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage, TCNMW, chaired by the Minister of Finance, and Coordinating Minister for Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, in Ikeja, Lagos.
Sessi said the call for the review has become expedient in view of the rising cost of living across economic sectors.
The unions described the stance of some governors’ inability to pay the minimum wage as “unacceptable.”
President Bola Tinubu, through Vice President Kashim Shettima, inaugurated a 37-member panel on the new minimum wage in the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja on January 30, 2024.
