An 18-year-old student Mamady Keïta and 21-year-old taxi driver Ibrahima Touré have been killed in clashes with police during a paralyzing national strike in Guinea’s capital Conakry.
According to family members, the two were killed in Sonfonia and another suburb.
The incidents occurred amid pockets of unrest triggered by young residents venting frustrations over absence of internet access, inflated food prices and implementation of a public sector pay deal.
So far the junta government, which seized power in a 2021 coup, has not responded to the strike action but instead, suppressed the protests.
