It was a tragic Sunday as gunmen killed no less than 15 Catholic worshippers in a Burkina Faso village, Essakane, as they gathered for prayers.
Vicar-general of the Catholic Diocese of Dori, where the attack happened, Jean-Pierre Sawadogo designated the incident as a terrorist attack.
No further details were provided about the attack, which no group claimed responsibility for. But suspicion fell on jihadis who have frequently attacked remote communities and security forces, especially in the northern region.
