President Joe Biden is expected to meet with congressional leaders tomorrow to discuss funding the government as a partial shutdown deadline loom on Friday.
A white house statement noted that Biden will meet with top Democrats and Republicans from both the House and Senate where the president will discuss the urgency of passing a government funding bill before midnight.
The meeting comes as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Speaker Mike Johnson exchanged harsh public comments as the Senate leader accused House Republicans of being more capable of chaos than passing legislation.
Johnson shot back in a statement blasting the counterproductive rhetoric in Schumer’s letter and contended many of the points still up for debate were later demands from Democrats.
Funding is due to run out on March 1 for some federal agencies, including the Department of Transportation, while others like the Defense Department face a March 8 deadline.
