There are fears that seven states in Northern Nigeria comprising Adamawa, Borno, Kaduna, Sokoto, Yobe and Zamfara would face severe food crisis this year.
According to the World Bank’s Food Security Report, the projected hardship is a possible outcome of persistent insecurity, armed conflict and deteriorating livelihoods.
The report also stated that inaccessible areas in some northern states such as Abadam, Bama, Guzamala and Marte have led to emergency food security levels.
Aside from insecurity, Nigeria’s persistently increasing inflation rate is limiting the purchasing power of people, thereby making food unaffordable for many, especially internally displaced persons, in these areas.
