National Chairman of the Socialist Workers League (SWL), Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, has urged all organizations representing the oppressed in Nigeria to unite and prepare for mass uprisings against what he terms the “anti-people’s government’s” neoliberal policies of President Bola Tinubu.
Pointing to recent protests in Minna and Kano as harbingers of a larger movement, Ajayi emphasized that Nigerians have reached their breaking point amidst skyrocketing food prices and a dramatic depreciation of the Naira.
“The Naira has depreciated in value by over 50% since March 2023, while food prices have skyrocketed,” Ajayi lamented. “Nigerians have endured enough and will not take government excuses anymore.”
Ajayi squarely placed blame on President Tinubu’s administration, accusing it of lacking solutions to address the dire consequences of its neoliberal policies. He criticized Tinubu’s attempts to deflect responsibility by attributing the protests to opposition parties, labelling such efforts as mere excuses to buy time.
“The experiences of January Uprising Against Fuel Subsidy Removal in 2012 and the EndSARS protests in 2020 have taught the Nigerian masses that only through mass revolts will things change for the better,” Ajayi asserted.
Warning against the use of force to suppress dissent, Ajayi predicted that such tactics would soon prove ineffective as Nigerians have nothing left to lose but their chains. He envisioned the protests evolving into a national movement that law enforcement agencies would struggle to contain.
In light of these developments, the Socialist Workers League noted that “Minna and Kano are flashes of actions to come. It’s time to hone their potential to result in revolutionary liberty through organizational leadership from the left,” Ajayi concluded, rallying Nigerians to mobilize for change.
