Justice Ambose Lewis-Allagoa of the Federal High Court, sitting at Ikoyi, Lagos has ordered the federal government to fix the prices of goods and petroleum products within seven days.
He gave the order sequel to an originating motion filed and argued by the applicant and human rights activist, Femi Falana, SAN, seeking declarations that by Section 4 of the Price Control Act, the government has a legal obligation to impose prices on certain essential goods.
The judge stated he had reviewed Falana’s suit and noted the government’s failure to file a counter-affidavit opposing the motion, meaning all facts presented are deemed admitted under the law.
He therefore directed the government to fix prices for items listed in the Price Control Act – including milk, flour, salt, sugar, bicycles, motorcycles, motor vehicles, and their spare parts, as well as petroleum products like diesel, petrol, and kerosene.
