The Federal High Court on Monday in Abuja invalidated the 2024 budget amounting to N800 billion that was approved and signed into law by Rivers State Governor, Simi Fubara.
In December 2023, Fubara presented the budget proposal to a faction of the state House of Assembly, consisting of four lawmakers.
After the lawmakers passed the budget, Fubara went on to officially enact it.
The division within the Rivers Assembly emerged when 27 lawmakers, aligned with former governor Nyesom Wike, attempted to impeach Fubara.
In response, the presiding judge, James Omotosho, declared all actions taken by the four lawmakers as null and void.
The court also officially acknowledged Martin Amaewhule as the speaker of the State Assembly.
