Iranian government has denied claims by the United States that a drone launched from Iran had struck a chemical tanker in the Indian ocean.
In a statement on Monday, Iran’s foreign ministry spokesperson Nasser Kanaani said the repetitive accusations are rejected as baseless, adding that the U.S. should rather examine its role in Israel’s war on Gaza, instead of propagating unfounded allegations.
The Pentagon had over the weekend claimed that the Liberia-flagged, Japanese-owned and Netherlands-operated Chem Pluto ship was hit 200 nautical miles off the coast of India, accusing Iran of masterminding the attack.
The accusation follows the delivery of cruise missiles with a range of 1,000 km as well as reconnaissance helicopters, by the Iranian navy, amid growing attacks on shipping lanes in the wake Israel’s bombardment of Gaza.
