The minister of works, Dave Umahi says the federal government will not be intimidated or forced to rescind its decision to employ concrete pavement for suitable roads nationwide, insisting that those against the innovation are unpatriotic persons after their own selfish interest.
Umahi said this in a statement, noting that introduction of the concrete pavement policy has unsettled some criminal minded entities who he claims put pressure on the Naira through the importation of adulterated bitumen instead of developing the abundant bitumen deposits in parts of Nigeria.
He attributed the increasing resistance to the adoption of concrete pavement to the selfish motives and sabotage of those opposing the alternative road construction strategy.
According to him, the new policy has not violated any law, and the Federal Ministry of Works has no reason to step it down.
while warning contractors handling Federal government road projects to adhere strictly to the new road policies, Umahi said the government would not tolerate a breach of contract by any recalcitrant contractor.
