The government of Sudan has asked the United Nations to immediately terminate its political mission, UNITAMS, in the country.

Sudan’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Sade made the request in an open letter, noting that the mission was disappointing in implementing its objectives of assisting the transitional government of Sudan after the December 2018 revolution.

The relationship between the Sudanese government and the UN has been tense since a war erupted in the country on April 15.

Recall Sudanese de facto president Abdel Fattah al-Burhan declared the UN special envoy to Sudan, Volker Perthes persona non grata after accusing him of fueling the conflict in Sudan.
