Judicial Service Commission Nominates 22 Justices to Fill Supreme Court Vacancies

The Federal Judicial Service Commission, FJSC, has sent names of 22 nominees to the National Judicial Council, NJC to be considered for elevation to the Supreme Court.

The elevation of Justices to the apex court has become priority after the exit of Justices Amina Augie and Mohammed Datijo left the court with 10 justices as against the stipulated 21.

The North-Central region has six nominees, while the South-West and South-South regions have two nominees each. 

The South-East region also has six nominees, and the North-East has two nominees.

Some of those prioritized for elevation are Chairman of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal for the 2023 elections, Justice Haruna Tsammani, Justice Adewale Abiru from Lagos State, Justice Nwaoma Uwa from Abia State.

Hon Justice Onyekachi Otisi (Abia State) – Reserve

Hon Justice Obande Ogbuinya (Ebonyi State) – Priority

Hon Justice Anthony Ogakwu (Enugu State) – Priority

Hon Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme (Imo State) – Reserve

SOUTH SOUTH:
