Indian rescuers are attempting to free 40 construction workers who were trapped when a road tunnel they were building collapsed in northern India earlier today.
A state disaster response official, Durgesh Rathodi said about 200 meters of the 4.5-kilometer tunnel collapsed in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.
He explained that Oxygen is being supplied to the victims through the debris but we’re unable to keep things steady due to more rubble falling as rescuers try to remove the obstruction.
The tunnel is part of a road project launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve connections to the country’s popular Hindu shrines, as well as areas bordering China.
