The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the off-cycle governorship election in Imo, Kogi and Bayelsa states.
The electoral umpire distributed life jackets across the eight local government areas of Bayelsa State where the governorship election will be held, deployed security operatives to ensure a conducive environment for the voters and INEC officials.
INEC National commissioner in Imo state, Kenneth Ukeagu and Wilfred Ofogha of Bayelsa state who confirmed the distribution of sensitive and non-sensitive materials for Saturday’s election appealed to political players to embrace peace and follow the provisions of the law to uphold fairness and freedom.
On his part, deputy inspector general of police, Frank Mba promised that the various security outlets in the states will be on high alert to quench any form of violence or riotous activity and ensure the security of voters, INEC staff and all valuable materials.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu had charged electoral staff in Saturday’s governorship elections to demonstrate the highest level of patriotism and professionalism.
