President Bola Tinubu has threatened to sack any Minister who fails to perform in line with the mandates assigned to them.

Tinubu issued the threat on Wednesday, while declaring open, the 2023 cabinet retreat for ministers, presidential aides, permanent secretaries and top government functionaries open at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“If you are performing, nothing to fear, if you miss the objective we review, if you don’t perform, you leave us… Don’t be a clog in the wheel of Nigeria’s progress,” said the president. ⁣

He said excuses would not be tolerated, hence, the reason he took his time to assemble the best brains in his cabinet, who can aid the administration to meet the yearnings and aspirations of the citizens.

The president also revealed that the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Bala Hadiza has been directed to head the Result and Delivery Unit, through which key performance indicators of all ministerial appointees would be monitored.

He stressed that at the end of the retreat, all ministers would sign a bond of understanding to track those performing to expectation or not.

“At the end of this retreat, you will sign a performance bond with me…You are here to help me succeed and succeed I must…I have appointed a dynamic young lady Hadiza Bala Usman as my SA on Policy Coordination. If you have a problem with her, come to me. If you don’t, stay where you are and work,” he told the ministers.⁣
⁣
He declared that he had accepted the assets and liabilities of his predecessor, telling the participants that although chaos exists around them, they must be focused like one driving in a tunnel to deliver the goods. ⁣
