IGP Hints at Launch of New Special Intervention Squad, to Tackle Insecurity, Crimes Others

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, says the force is on a path of rigorous rejig to reorientate officers and improve their welfare for efficiency and intelligence in service delivery.

Egbetokun said this today at a Conference and Retreat for Senior Police Officers, noting that his priority is to confront the menace of violent crimes, restore calm to troubled areas and engender an atmosphere of peace, safety and security which will promote national economic growth and prosperity.

According to him, all is set for the smooth take-off of the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) a standby team of specially trained officers to rapidly intervene in major incidents, which he said will take off in 10 pilot states.

He noted that after the 10 pilot states identified based on the recent violent crime assessment carried out in the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the other 27 states will immediately follow.

The police chief also commended President Bola Tinubu for approing the specialised training of the initial team of instructors for the SIS which starts next month.
