Tinubu Appoints Former Aides of Wike, Mattawale, Others INEC Commissioners

Dr Anugbum Onuoha, an ally of Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, a former Commissioner under the administration of Bello Mattawalle in Zamfara, Abubakar Dambo alongside seven others have been appointed by President Bola Tinubu as new Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The duo is designated to serve as RECs in Rivers and Zamfara state.

The President also appointed one of the Commissioners of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, Bunmi Omoseyindemi, former Ekiti Head of Service, Bamidele Agbede (Ekiti), Taiye Ilayasu (Kwara), Isah Ehimeakne (Edo) and Jani Bello (Gombe).

Others are Yahaya Bello (Nasarawa) and Mohammed Yalwa (Niger).

According to a statement by Presidential Spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, their appointment as Resident Electoral Commissioners is for a term of five years each, subject to the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate.

“President Tinubu expects the new appointees to abide by the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct in the discharge of their duties.

“And in accordance with his determination to facilitate the establishment of a new and sustainable standard of transparent, fair, and conflict-free electoral conduct in Nigeria,” the president’s spokesman said.
