Chicago State University’s Registrar, Dr. Carl Westberg, on Tuesday night, testified under oath that the diploma President Bola Tinubu presented to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was not like the ones issued by the university in 1979.
An analysis of the deposition transcript by VeonewsNG indicated that Westberg admitted that the University did not have any record of Tinubu’s (submitted) diploma in its database.
This deposition is part of the legal challenge by Atiku Abubakar, Tinubu’s political rival, who claims that Tinubu presented a forged certificate to INEC.
Tinubu defeated Atiku at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
The outcome of the deposition by Dr. Westberg is raises questions about the authenticity of Tinubu’s certificate, which could potentially disqualify him from staying on as President of Nigeria.
Section 137 (j) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states that a person shall not be qualified for election to the office of President if he has presented a forged certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
