The Sokoto State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has upheld the election of Governor Ahmed Aliyu.
The Tribunal dismissed the petition of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Saidu Umar, which alleged that Aliyu’s deputy, Idris Gobir, was not qualified and that there was electoral fraud in the March 18, 2023 governorship election in the State.
According to the three-man panel of Judges led by Justice Haruna Mshelia, the petitioners failed to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt.
Earlier, it was reported that journalists except those working for the state owned media were barred from covering the judgement.
