Yesterday I saw the beauty of Nigeria come alive again, I saw the reinvigoration of the sweetness of Nigeria before the civil war casted uncivil and dangerous doubts in the hearts of the great people.I reunited two great men Ifeanyi and okey of the Kano class of 47 and 54. They had met in Kano and attended the Igbo union school although from different parts of Nigeria, the South west and the South East but Kano was a melting pot for all cultures, Kano presented a rich pedestal for the exchange of cultures and grace laced with respect for humanity. In Kano, there was no race -it was one Nigeria until the 67 war, destroyed Kano and sowed the seed of animosity which has now germinated into the Oromo tree of hatred.I saw the warm embrace from two glistening eyes that told the story of solidarity and what Nigeria used to be, today it’s hard to understand that Nigeria with terrible economic problems and tapestry of untold fear and chaos. If there is anything that became evident from the meeting yesterday, is the need to make Nigeria better,so that very soon we can sing the Redemption Song.
Old pirates, yes, they rob I
Sold I to the merchant ships
Minutes after they took I
From the bottomless pit
But my hand was made strong
By the hand of the Almighty
We forward in this generation
Triumphantly
Won’t you help to sing
These songs of freedom?
‘Cause all I ever have
Redemption songs
Redemption songs
Emancipate yourselves from mental slave
Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery
None but ourselves can free our minds
