The Lagos state pensioners under the new Contributory Pension Scheme say they are experiencing hardship as a result of the failure of the Lagos State Government to pay their pensions since 2020.

The Lagos state pensioners in a statement obtained by VeonewsNG , demanded immediate attention from government, adding that the suffering they had to endure had resulted in the death of some members on a monthly basis.

According to the pensioners, the major cause of this, is as a result of non-remittance of their accumulated benefit in their retirement pension’s account in 2007 which would increase their capital in their retirement saving account RSA and the removal of gratuity in the new pension scheme because government wanted to reduce cost of governance.

Lamenting the lack of response from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to an initial letter written in July, the pensioners demanded that the Governor immediately sees to the payment of the outstanding bonds of the members from 2020 till date as they can no longer bear the discomfort.
