Resident Doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Wednesday, joined their colleagues in a nationwide strike, vowing not to resume until Government meets their demands.
Confirming the status of the strike to VeoNewsNG, Chairman of the Association of Resident Doctors, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, Salmon Abeeb-Oladapo, said doctors were still expecting the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas to broker a deal with government.
He said, “Our National Leaders met with the Speaker and even though he offered assurances, but there was nothing concrete which was why we had to convoke an emergency meeting and embark on strike.
“Now, we hope he, alongside government can fulfil our demands and ensure this strike does not linger.”
“Some of these things can be sorted in one or two days but government is not serious.”
But the decision of the doctors does not sit well with some Nigerians who said the strike was inconsiderate and put the lives of several others at risk.
In a chat with VeonewsNG, Olabisi vented her anger at the doctors, saying, “it makes no sense that this resident doctors often embark on strike.
“I have had harsh experiences, imagine losing someone because of the absence of doctors. They need to be more patriotic.”
The Resident Doctors are demanding increment and arrears of hazard allowance after over two years of agreement, implementing medical residency training fund (MRTF), reversal of the downgrade of membership certificate.
