Suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has been granted a N20 million bail.
Justice Nicholas Oweibo outlined the conditions of the bail to include producing a suretee with landed property within the jurisdiction of the court in Ikoyi, Lagos, depositing his passport and also producing a Civil servant not below level 16 to perfect bail.
Earlier, Emefiele pleaded not guilty to two counts of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
After the plea, Joseph Daudu, SAN, told the court that his client has been in detention for the past 4 weeks. He also told Justice Nicholas Oweibo that the application for bail has been filed and served on the prosecution.
The DSS had picked up Emefiele about a month ago after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu.
He was brought to court in a white Toyota Hilux pick-up van, with the plate number covered, around 9:23 a.m.
On arrival at the court, Emefiele stepped down from the van and was assisted by a female before Justice Nicolas Oweibo.
According to the government, the offense violates Section 4 of the Firearms Act, Cap F28 Laws of the Federation 2004, and is penalized under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.
