Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas has appealed to the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) to suspend their planned strike, promising to intervene in their dispute with the Government.
The Speaker made the appeal during a meeting with the leadership of the doctors in his office in Abuja but challenged them to also make realistic compromises.
He assured them that the House will deploy every legislative instrument available to us to ensure that they are fully compensated and rewarded for this act of patriotism.
The resident doctors who initially embarked on strike before the inauguration of President Bola Tinubu are demanding a 200 percent increase in their salaries, payment of all salary arrears implementation of the CONMEAS salary structure and new hazard allowance and domestication of the Medical Residency Training Act and payment of medical residency training fund among others.
