Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Mahmood Yakubu has dismissed widespread reports that the commission received funding or cash support from international development partners.

The Professor who spoke at an election review meeting with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in Abuja, said the clarifications became necessary to correct the impression that the commission received funding support from development partners for the 2023 general election.

On review of the 2023 elections, Yakubu admitted that the lack of cash as a result of the naira redesign policy, logistics issues and security situation triggered some of the flaws in the polls.

INEC has in the last two weeks been engaging with critical stakeholders who participated in one way or the other in the conduct of the 2023 general elections as well as to ramp up preparations for the Elections in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa states.
