
Legal luminary and founder Afe Babalola University, Ado-Ekiti, Afe Babalola has recommended that election petition tribunal panels should not be populated by sitting judges as it would affect the timelines for other cases.
Speaking at the celebration of his Diamond Anniversary at the bar, Babalola recommended that the panels be made up of Senior Advocates of Nigeria and retired Chief Judges.
He also suggested a speedy timeline for a determination of cases.
He decried the poor remuneration of lawyers and appealed to government to urgently review the emoluments of judges and judicial officers in other to ensure that those is government practice do not feel discouraged and venture into private practice.
The event was attended by prominent personalities including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Governor of Ekiti, Biodun Oyebanji, former Governor of Ekiti, Segun Oni, Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Mathew Kukah and Royal fathers from Ekiti and Ilorin.
