Liverpool defender, Virgil van Dijk has slammed his national team side after Netherlands suffered a 3-2 defeat in the hands of Italy in the UEFA Nations League semifinals on Sunday in the third-place playoff.
Federico Di Marco, Davide Frattesi and Federico Chiesa helped Italy secure victory at the expense kf goals scored by Steven Bergwijn and Georgino Wijnaldum for the Netherlands.
It is now a back-to-back defeat for Ronald Koeman’s team after they were beaten 4-2 by Croatia in the semifinals.
Dijk, who was visibly frustrated after the Italy defeat, said, “It’s just not good enough. The first half was bad. This can’t happen. You play for your honour today. I feel ashamed.”
