President Muhammadu Buhari, has asked the Senate to approve a request to pay a judgement debt sum of $566.7million, £98.52million and N226 billion.

This was disclosed in a letter read at plenary by President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan.

The president explained that the request was sequel to the decision of the Federal Executive Council to liquidate top priority judgement debts and general judgement debts owed by Ministries, Departments and Agencies through the issuance of promissory notes.

The promissory notes will then be redeemed over time through provisions in the budgets of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Recall that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, had earlier revealed that the ministry, recovered the total sums of £6.32 million, €5.4million and $390million from various jurisdictions.
