The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Akarachi Amadi, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, as the winner of the supplementary election for Mbaitoli/Ikeduru Federal Constituency of Imo State.
The election which took place on Saturday saw the APC candidate emerge victorious with a total of 21,372 votes, according to the Federal Constituency Returning Officer, Prof Boniface Okoro.
Uche Ogbuagu of the Labour Party came in second place with 18,296 votes, while the incumbent and the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Henry Nwawuba, came in third place with 7,202 votes.
Other candidates include Usmond Ukanacho of the Peoples Democratic Party who polled 6,681 votes, Chinonso Uba of the African Democratic Congress with 4,100 votes, and Godstime Chukwunuikem of the Social Democratic Party with 246 votes. The announcement of the results led to wild jubilation in the area.
