The Supreme Court has affirmed Rufai Hanga as Senator Elect for Kano Central Senatorial District under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party voiding the candidature of former governor, Ibrahim Shekarau.
Delivering Judgment In an appeal brought before it by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Court upheld the Judgments of the Federal high court and the Court of Appeal both in Abuja, which had earlier upheld the candidature of Hanga as the candidate of the party.
Reading the judgement of the court, by Justice Emmanuel Agim held that the INEC’s appeal lacked merit and substance and dismissed it.
Shekarau who was the candidate of party for the position withdrew from the party due to to irreconcilable differences there by losing his candidacy.
The NNPP had sent a replacement but INEC refused to accept it instead contesting the party’s decision in court.
