The Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele has met with the leadership of about 15 commercial banks, ordering them to comply with President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive.

The CBN Governor disclosed details of the meeting on Thursday when he visited Presidential Villa hours after the nationwide televised broadcast where the President Muhammadu Buhari announced that only the old N200 note will remain a legal tender until April 10, 2023.

President Buhari had defended the decision not to reverse his stance on the naira redesign policy, arguing that it has minimized the monetization of politics in Nigeria.

Emefiele said the meeting with the Bank Executives was to ensure ample supply of the old N200 notes to alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.
