Following the approval granted by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to the Ekiti Agro and International Cargo Airport to embark on non-scheduled flights, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Peter Obafemi, has raised critical questions about the true state of the project.
Describing the celebrations by Governor Biodun Oyebanji and the All Progressives Congress (APC) as premature and fooling the unsuspecting Ekiti people, Obafemi called for transparency, accountability, and a clear plan for the airport’s future.
The NCAA’s approval, which runs from December 15, 2024, to June 15, 2025, allows for non-scheduled flight operations, which means the airport can only operate a non-scheduled charter operation during the day.
A statement by Obafemi Media Office, however, questioned the readiness of the airport for operations.
“If the airport is supposedly ready for operations, why does it require six months of corrective actions?
“What precisely are these ‘corrective actions,’ and how much more public funds will be expended to meet these requirements?” Obafemi asked, challenging the government to provide clarity on the situation.
