The trial of former Kwara State Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed and his ex-Finance Commissioner, Ademola Banu, over alleged mismanagement of N5.78 billion resumed on Wednesday at the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin.
The duo, accused of diverting funds meant for teachers’ salaries, security, and infrastructure, pleaded not guilty during their arraignment in October 2024.
At the hearing, EFCC’s first witness, an assistant director at Universal Basic Education Commission, Abubakar Hassan, testified that between 2013 and 2015, over N5 billion in grants for education projects was diverted.
He revealed that while initial implementation of the 2013 Action Plan had begun, about N2 billion was later misappropriated by Kwara SUBEB, thereby stalling activities from 2016 to 2018.
Justice Mahmud Abdulgafar subsequently adjourned the case until February 17, 2025.
