Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described corruption as a persistent national challenge, referring to it as “a great monster” during the celebration of the life of Justice Emmanuel Olayinka Ayoola (rtd), former Chairman of the ICPC.
Speaking at the Methodist Church in Ibadan, Obasanjo praised Justice Ayoola’s efforts in combating corruption, acknowledging the challenges during his administration. “Corruption is a great cancer still battling us. Justice Ayoola and the ICPC did their best, but the pressure remains immense,” he said.
Justice Ayoola, who passed at 90, was remembered for his integrity and contributions to Nigeria’s reputation.
Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun commended him, urging attendees to reflect on the legacies they leave behind.
In his sermon, Bishop Simeon Onaleke called for laws barring corrupt politicians from holding office, while hailing Justice Ayoola’s virtuous life.
Dignitaries, including Supreme Court justices and legal icons, paid tribute, celebrating his impactful career and unwavering commitment to justice.
