The Federal Government has commenced payment of the four months withheld salaries to members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Federal Universities (NASU).
A statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF), Bawa Mokwa said the Federal Government has also allocated funds to cover benefits for retirees under the Nigerian Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme Sector (NUPCPS), further demonstrating its commitment to honouring pension obligations.
The statement added that this was part of a conciliatory step by the Federal Government in addressing long-standing salary arrears and supporting federal university staff, some of whom have embarked on strike.
Mokwa added that payments have commenced, with numerous NASU members confirming receipt of their salaries.
On Monday, the Joint Action Committee of SSANU and NASU embarked on an indefinite strike over its four months of withheld salary, grounding activities across public institutions in the country.
