Nigeria’s U-17 women’s football team, the Flamingos, have advanced to the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a dominant 4-0 victory over Ecuador at the Estadio Cibao in the Dominican Republic.
This marks their second consecutive match scoring four goals, securing their place in the knockout stage with a game to spare.
Shakira Moshood opened the scoring with a penalty in the 28th minute, following a foul on captain Taiwo Afolabi.
In the 54th minute, Harmony Chidi doubled the lead with a stunning solo strike, after a disallowed VAR goal earlier.
A defensive error from Ecuador allowed Peace Effiong to make it 3-0 in the 66th minute.
Moshood completed the rout in injury time, netting her second goal to seal the Flamingos’ commanding win and push them to the top of their group with six points.
