Ondo state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has granted freedom to 19 convicts serving jail term in various Correctional Centres in the state.
The 19 freed inmates were part of 117 inmates Governor Aiyedatiwa extended mercy to help reform their lives.
The action of the governor followed recommendations of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy, highlighting a commitment to rehabilitation and second chances within the justice system.
Among the beneficiaries, 19 convicts will enjoy outright release, while some others will have their death sentences commuted to life imprisonment.
Additionally, several inmates will have their sentences reduced, paving the way for opportunities for reintegration into society and reforming the lives of those affected.
The decision of the governor was announced in a release on Monday signed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr Olukayode Ajulo, who is also the Chairman of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.
