Facebook’s parent company Meta says it is banning several Russian state media networks, alleging they use deceptive tactics to carry out influence operations and evade detection on its platforms.
According to Meta, after careful consideration, it has expanded ongoing enforcement against Russian state media outlets. Rossiya Segodnya, RT, and other related entities are now banned from its apps globally for foreign interference activity.
Prior to Monday’s ban, RT had 7.2 million followers on Facebook and 1 million followers on Instagram.
Meanwhile, RT and Russian officials have denied the accusations.
The bans are expected to come into effect in the next few days.
