Nigeria’s former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan has clarified that her husband will not be joining the 2027 presidential race.
This comes amid speculations and calls by some political stakeholders for her husband, Goodluck Jonathan to return to Aso Rock in 2027.
Speaking while hosting the Greater Igbo Forum in Abuja, the former First Lady said Jonathan has occupied the highest political office in Nigeria and has no further political ambition.
She assured that the former president was committed to supporting the government in building a better Nigeria.
According to her, “My husband has reached the pinnacle of political office. What is he looking for again? We are not going in again.”
She also called on the Igbo people to unite and focus on the collective good rather than personal or political differences.
We should love this country more than ourselves. Because if you don’t love this country, what is the future of our children?” she queried.
