The Imo State government has denied reports that it imposed fines on those who use solar panels and generators in the state.
A media outlets had published a report claiming Imo State governments was issuing fines to residents for using alternative energy sources to power their facilities, citing “environmental unfriendly activities” and “carbon emission.”
Reacting, government noted that while it has the responsibility to ensure the environmental safety of citizens, it has never contemplated sanctioning anyone for using either solar panels or generators.
The State Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation, and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, in a statement said the story was fake and an attempt to tarnish the image of the Imo State government without just cause.
