Personnel from the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the Abuja office of the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) on Monday, reportedly seeking to arrest the organization’s directors.
SERAP, the prominent human rights group, disclosed the incident in a social media post, stating that the DSS officials asked specifically for its directors. The reason for the attempted arrest remains unclear but is believed to be connected to SERAP’s recent advocacy efforts for government accountability and transparency.
In its statement, SERAP urged President Tinubu to immediately intervene, calling the DSS actions an “unlawful occupation” and a violation of Nigerians’ rights.
Earlier on Monday, DSS officials also arrested Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) President, Joe Ajaero, at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, as he was set to travel to the UK.
